Anyone tell me if the tyres on the back should be wider than the fronts

I think you're looking at E36 M3s ?

EVOs should have 245/40/17 rear and 225/45/17 front

Non-EVOs have 235/something/17 all round.

if you mean E46, then yes: 225 (45/18 or 40/19) front, 255 (40/18 or 35/19) rear. (235/35/19 and 265/30/19 on the CSL).

My Evo had 245/40/17 rear and 225/45/17 front which is std sizes.

I recently had to replace them and decided to fit slightly bigger 255/40/17 and 235/45/17 mainly for the extra width on the front and extra diameter on the rear.

Mine had same size tyres on all round. Check sticker on the door shut which show tyre pressures - it's ok to have same size but you can also have wider rear tyres.

I've changed to the wider rear tyres as the rear alloys are wider! Got some new fronts to go on too - ahhh thankfully I get a family discount of 70% off them!
