M3 original mirrors on a E46

Wondering if anyone knows the cost (and associated aggro) involved in replacing the standard wing mirrors on a 2004 330ci Sport Coupe with an orignal M3 E46 pair? There are some on ebay which got me thinking.

I'm not really a 'wannabe' M3 owner but can't stand the standard box-shaped mirrors - aweful things which spoil an otherwise great looking car. Not interested in any kind of mod mirror, just original BMW.

Get E46 M3 mirrors, then they're bound to fit? or some ACS ones whcih don't give the "wannabe" impression whilst being more or less official BMW parts.

Thanks for reply. You're probably right, ACS are OK but I would still rather go down the M3 mirror route I think. However, i fear the cost will be interesting and maybe put the lights out on this little idea of mine. So an ACS pair might be the only option. Do you know if it's a diy job?

I would have assumed ACS and M3 mirrors would be similar prices, once supplied painted?

I know what you mean about the 3-series mirrors though, they look silly. M3 design is much better.

Thanks for the links John. Looks like a simple question is becoming more complex by the minute. Having looked through e46fanatics threads it seems the facelift e46 wiring may be a stumbling block if I want to fit M3 mirrors. And I quote from a US posting "the dealership just called and said that they could not install the mirrors because after the 3 series got the face lift its now using a different technology..They said it now uses only 1 wire, the m3 uses 8 wires..." Not sure if this is a US only issue but probably best if I go to my dealer and get the low down. I think the pair currently for sale on ebay will have to wait!
