i have an e36 m3 evo and its fine until it warms up about 20min driving it becomes difficult to get in 1st or 2nd without double clutching, however when the engine/car is cold it goes in gear fine. There are no other faults pointing to g-box troubles however once warm the biting point of the clutch is very close to the floor is this normal? i`m wondering if its because the clutch is not disengaging properly when hot can you adjust it ? any other ideas ????????/
cheers

I had a similar problem in my E36 M3 when I first got it... when in traffic the clutch pedal would start to go into the carpet.

Anyhow it was a leaking master cylinder and cost me about £80 at the local BMW experts to sort.

Now the clutch pedal is still a bit low but is much higher than it was and does not move...

I am told the pedal moves up as it wears so a low pedal is a new clutch... however after 15,000 miles its not got any higher!!!

You might need to get the "braided clutch hose modification" done.

It's BMW part number 95 09 0 000 002

My E36 Evo (46K miles) had the clutch biting near the floor when cold, and once the car was hot, the biting point was about 1mm off the floor, and thus rather annoying to drive.

The BMW dealer just said "new clutch mate". They hadn't heard of the braided hose fix I got the part number from one of the BMW Forums and asked the dealer to try it. They were sceptical, but fitted the hose, and it has made a considerable difference. I ended up paying about £140 quid, as they had some problems fitting it, a specialist would doubtless be cheaper.

The biting point is now a couple of cm higher, and doesn't go down as the car gets hot. So the combination of the hose and fresh fluid has certainly postponed me needing a new clutch for a good few K miles (if it really needs one at all), this mod. was definitely worth doing in my case.
