The boot light in my E34 won't switch off recently and I can't seem to find the switch that activates when the boot lid is raised.

Can anyone put me out of my misery?

As you open up the boot it should be either towards the left of the boot catch on the boot lid bottom edge or built into the catch mech, but I would first check the boot wiring at the left boot hinge as this is where it usually breaks and shorts out to other circuits.

No sign of any switch - only the wiring for the central locking boot lock. The loom goes around the left hinge as you said, but it seems intact with no apparent wear.
I am guessing that the switch is a mercury tilt switch or similar? It was going a bit dodgy over the last few weeks but eventually stuck on (flattening my battery overnight)
I have since removed the bulbs but really miss the light at night.
