I own a 98 M3 Evo and when I bought it last July it had a Vanos unit replaced by BMW.

So while doing my research I phoned BMW who told me that when a Vanos unit goes it is replaced with a updated version which, (should not fail again).

9 months later all is a o.k.

If I was you I would only look at ones with the Vanos covered or a full BMW warranty.

Happy hunting and shame your not after a coupe as mine in on Pistion Heads and is the right colour for you!!

Thank Robbie, I Might go for the Coupe yet I havent actually seen any of them in the flesh so to speak, so it will be whichever I like best. From the pictures I like the Coupe better for its looks but the convertible is a great summer car.Ive just sold my Lotus Esprit and have the cash Give me an email and maybe we can get together.

Forgot to mention, has to be a manual gearbox not the SMG, nothing against the SMG just dont like automatics.

I would say so, yes. I bought an October 98 Evo coupe with the BMW extended warranty, 46K miles, back in October, for 12.9K. I felt I probably paid slightly over the top, but I was getting fed up with looking and knew I'd found a good car.

Now it's 6 months further on, and your car is older than mine too. SMG worries a lot of people too as it has a reputation (whether deserved or not) for expensive failures.

I'm sure it's very nice, but I think you are being rather optimistic with the price.

Its a smashing motor Robbie, but the thing is you could buy a very nice convertible for that sort of money, I do think you will get your price though, you may just have to wait for someone who wants exactly what youve got..and who is loaded, and the money dosent matter to them, low miles, SMG, etc...

There is another Estoril blue one on further down for around 8.9K, anyone know anything about it?, I ve Emailed the owner seems very genuine and friendly.
