Has anyone advertising a BMW on Pistonheads or anywhere on the web for that matter, received an e-mail from a David White?? I'm new to this e-mail lark and have had a very strange e-mail from this character proclaiming they want to buy my E30 M3, how perfect is it? and wanting my full name, address and telephone number?? The whole things written in almost pigeon english which seems strange for a David White!! It may be completely genuine maybe I'm just paranoid but I've had a couple of strange ones already.. Any Advice gratefully received!!

Thanks in anticipation..

Hannu, please send me details of your advert on PH and I'll investigate. Sounds very much like a scam but I can't find your advert to check the logs.

I received this this morning....your one sounds like a scam. Especially if they start offering money already like this guy did to me. As they say, if it's too good to be true, it probably is!!!

All scams.
I had an email wanting to buy something of my website that was only worth £50, I responded and said I wanted £800 for it, they said OK, So then replied back saying that Ive discovered its worth much more money, so I asked £2000 for it - Guess what - they said OK ! , They would send a cheque over for £5000 and you know the rest of the story....

Sorry . I don't get it ....

If you are selling and they are sending you money , then you'll wait for the payment to clear before you hand over the goods, what ever they might be.

So , how does the scam work ?

Typically they will overpay.

The cheque will clear.

You will 'refund' them the difference.

Bank will then inform you that money was fraud, and recover it from your account.

You are down the 'refunded' amount.
