Hi,

Want to swap out my silver aluminium inserts for the piano black ones but have no idea where to start finding the release clips/screws for the existing trims...

Has anyone managed to remove these? Any links to a DIY? I've tried searching and not turned much up.

Any help appreciated

Cheers - JON

On the 5 series, they are on spring clips. The long one on the dash (with the push button for the starter in it) for example can easily be removed starting from the passenger side - its easiest with the door & glovebox open to get a grip on it. A trim removal tool helps for the pieces on the door cards. When you put the main dash section back on be careful to line up the air vents on the trim piece with the slots in the dash first or it won't relocate on the clips properly when you push the side back in.

Has anyone else removed the trim on F12 BMW? The standard silver hex is junk. Want to get it hydrodipped.

Ironically my car went in yesterday to have this done finally, althought mine are being primed and the sprayed to matchthe Piano Black finish offered by BMW as an Option when new.

My guy has the car for a few days but thinks he can get them all out. Im doing a few extra bits too!

I’ll let you know how I get on

Looking like good progress. How did the finished product come out in the end?
Did the door cards need to be removed to get the trim off?

Looks like you’re all set but for future. Try YouTube.

That’s my first port of call for this sort of stuff. Invariably someone somewhere has done this before and made a video

I've seen the YouTube video, but it only shows the easy parts.

Thanks for newtis though, that had the info. Just need to try it now!

Any completed pictures of your interior?

No door cards didn't need to come out according to my mate.

Would be keen to see some pics. Looking to do this on a gran coupe and assume it is possible.

Can not find replacement trim anywhere online, any recommendations?

Replacement trim is expensive so we just matched mine to Piano Black from the original Silver hex, some pics:

I'll get some pics of the finished article too, thought the above may help with you removing trim though to begin with,

You do get the trim come up on eBay sometimes but it goes for strong money
