I've been trying to get rid of the Escort for a while now, and someone has offered me a swap for a K-reg 518i, in good nick, only with 160,000 miles on the clock.

As far as I have been able to find out, I would be getting a car of similar value, only a lot easier to sell(which is what I bought the Ford for in the first place). Anyone have any experience of these cars? Can they really do this kind of mileage and still be worthwhile?

Also, any comments on how well cars of this type are selling at the moment?

518's are no ball of fire, but go better than most people give them credit.

At that age it would be an M40 engine car, which had a timing belt as opposed to the later version which had a chain.

The interval on changing the belt is 3yrs/35k or something stupid (it kept getting less and less )

If properly maintained they are hardy beasts, but hardly exciting, decent ecomomy, built like a brick outhouse

Yep we used to have a 92 518i, no ball of fire as mustard said, but still a good car!
I would bite his hand off TBH
