Pondering getting one in the summer and was wondering about costs/procedures for turning a 325 into a "proper track slag".

I'd like to keep it road legal as i can't be bothered with the whole two car thing, but i'd be happy for it not to be if there was a significant reason for it. So general advice on how to turn, for instance a £600 MOT failure into something that's fairly swift (for a beginner) on track.

I assume:
Cage
Suspension
Brakes
Exhaust/general engine cleverness
Wheels/tyres

Any help gratefully recieved.

Im sure FrancisB can give you more idea ref E30 prices, having his own E30 trackslag.

However from doing similar to a VW, what I will say is the costs will be higher than you might 1st think, all the little bits do add up.

The individual costs of the bits mentioned below are not mega at all, but by the time labour is in added (if you can do all or the majority of the work your self the final bill would be a lot lot lot less) plus the unforseen odds, I'd say it can be a good coiple of £k over your original estimate.

Rough parts only prices-

Cage- from £200area

Suspension- from £500area- to £1500+

Brakes- from say £200 (uprate discs pads lines) to big brake kits- say up to £1500+

Wheels/tyres- from £300- up to as much as you want

Exhaust/general engine cleverness- from few hundred say = good engine service & additional oil cooler, to thousands, all depending on condition of original engine & the power that you are after.

Other bits to consider- g-box/dif rebuilds, race seats/harnesses, all poly bushes & loads of other little bits.

Depending exactly what you are after & assuming someone else would be doing the work for you, id say cheapest you are gunna get a decently built car that can take the track abuse from a base standard car, is from about £3k min upwards, tho that could easily be doubled.
