I need to get a second key - I only received the one when I bought the car. Does anybody know how much they cost?

If you bought it form a dealer, they should have provided it with the car,so tell them you want it free. I'm pretty sure it's part of the Approved Used BMW check.

Now do you want a key or a key fob. Which alarm is it for.
My son has a '97 318iS and his came with a 2 button alarm fob which is seperate from the key. I think it's called the 3G Alarm. Earlier models had the alarm integral with the key.

We recently bought 2 fobs and a new key. The fobs were £34 + VAT each and the key was £25 + VAT. The fobs then have to be coded to the car which is main dealer only. It takes about 3/4 hour because they take out the dash pocket to get access to the ECU. It cost around £80.

Interestingly with this alarm system the fob only controls the alarm. It is the key which controls the immobiliser.

If it's the later 3 button type, then they are 60 quid + VAT I believe.

I bought my 330 from a BMW dealer last year as "Approved Used" and it came with just one key. I wrote them a fairly assertive letter about it and a second key appeared a couple of weeks later...
