I ordered this car yonks ago but on balance I don't think I want it. The dealer is now looking for a spec quoting a June delivery.

Should I just ask for my deposit back or advertise the car for a premium?

Could you really get a premium for it when everyone knows the market will be flooded with them in a year?

Will it? The dealer assures me that his allocation for 2005 is just 1 car. They are quoting a wait of 1 - 2 years for somebody paying a deposit today.

Of course the dealer could by talking bulls**t.

He will have more than 1 a yr, unless he is the smallest dealer on the isle of man...

I doubt you'll get a premium for them though... those days are gone for BMW, until the new E90 M3 / M4 arrives...

You should get the vast majority of your money back though as they will be scarce...

i'd think you'd be surprised - just put it up with a very small margin and collect back. anything on top of what you've put down is a good thing in my eyes

They're each getting two cars plus a demonstrator this year. That's it.

If you don't mind my asking, why are you looking to get rid of it?

From what I have seen of it, it truly does look like one of the *best* cars to ever come out of BMW. Period.

Is it the looks?

I don't really care. I've put mine off until next year to enjoy the CSL.

Yes Tony it looks like a great car but I am concerned about the running costs and depreciation as this would be my every day car which has to cover so 20K miles per year.

My last M5 was brilliant but I did get thru a lot of tyres and it wasn't exactly frugal on petrol.

Somebody has just sold a 'place' in the queue for £21000 on ebay, just to get an early car....

Not sure if BMW will allow this but its the 2nd this week to be sold. (the other went for £12000)

Your only prob is that, at 2yrs old it will be at best worth £35k. A bargain, after someone paid £60k plus for it new. It happened with the E39 and will with the E60. Same for the E36, E46 M3 s.

Thanx for that Gibo.

BMW will not allow anybody to sell their place but there is nothing to stop an owner from selling the car a few seconds after purchase.

I could not find the sold cars in e-bay, is there a way to do this?

There are 2 M5's just posted on e-bay which I have added to my watch list. They are down for delivery in August and mine is expected in July. Need to get on with this though as I have to spec the car next month.

BMW cannot do anything about it...

All you do is sell your place on, spec the car as the new owner wants it, when it comes down to registering it you tell the dealer its going in your friends name and here's a covernote for him.

The dealer couldnt give a toss. He can't sell it on to anyone for more. Besides just tell the salesman and he wont want to sell the car on, he couldnt be arsed...

There is one for sale on e-bay right now. The current bid is just over £1000 with a few days to go.

I will watch with interest but I really can't see it reaching £21K!!!!!!!!!

If your order a car today you will get it circa 2007.

We are a big dealer and have 1 demo and 2 retail units for this year.

The market will not be flooded in 12 months time!!

I think residuals will remain strong on this car, but its not the car to do 20k pa in!!tbh.

Someone I know put a deposit down for one on wednesday and was told 2 years+. I'm hoping for his sanity that BMW raise production numbers like porsche did with the 996 turbo.
