It's a dark afternoon for this M Coupe owner. I have just been informed that I have failed the emissions test

The chap mumbled smth about the engine running very rich as if it is on full choke, but that was as much as he could tell me.

Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong? I'm praying it's smth simple and inexpensive

Long or short trip to the MOT station?

Was the car warmed up?

Has it been sat for a while?

Those three added up to a failure for me a few months ago, a quick rip up the motorway cured it, zero emissions.

It needs a good run before the MOT to make sure the CAT has fired up, idling from cold to hot will not always fire them up in the cold weather.
If it stills fails its most likely one of the Lamdba sensors faulty, once again get the fault code checked
