Just bought a 318 Ti Sport Compact Edition and it has ASC+T but I don't have the handbook yet and wondered what this function is?

TIA

Could be automatic sandwich changer + turbo.

These Bavarians try to think of everything.

OTOH, it could be automatic stability control + traction.
I didn't know the 318 got fitted with such things. You live & learn.

It's the basic BMW traction control. reduces power to control wheelspin.

DSC is the 'fancy' option, which uses individual wheel braking and other gizmos to help during a 'complete loss of talent'

Thanks folks, I thought it was something akin to ABS at first but wondered why I'd need to actually switch it on.

I guess you just switch on the ASC + T in the wet, ice or snow?

Is there any risk if it forgotten and left switched on for prolonged periods?

Isn't it on all the time, by default? On my MINI you have to disengage it manually if you want to light up the fronts

It re-engages itself every time you turn off the ignition.

I went out for a bit of a hoon at lunch time with ASC+T switched off then on and I can now see what it does!

Reduces your ability to put the rear end out!

My usual routine upon entering the MINI is:

1. Start car
2. Seatbelt
3. Check for dry roads
4. Dis-engage ASC+T
5. Laugh
