E36 bonnet release...Can you help ??

I am having problems getting the bonnet up on my E36. The release cable from inside the car has for some reason packed up. I can gain access to the nearside cable via the front grill but cannot get to the offside one. Can anybody please advise as I'm now a little stuck ......
