My car's due an oil service in a few weeks and I know that the discs need renewing all round. I want to keep the full BMW service history but thought I'd see if I could save a few quid by getting the discs done elsewhere (as no doubt BMW have a rather large mark up on them).

Anyone got any advice (eg stick with BMW discs) and anyone know of an independent in West Yorks?

Many thanks.

BMW dealers now like to compete with the factors and they dont do to bad on the brake stuff, you may need handbrake shoe's to as these crack up so dont be supprised if you told you need them, dont over lube the wheel studs bm's dont like it and if you do lower the torque setting, have fun,

Dale.

Cheers Dale. I certainly wouldn't be doing them myself (!) and if dealers are fairly competitive on price, I think I'll just let them get on with it.

Thanks for the advice.

Chumley, did you get your discs sorted? If not, I used a guy in Rothwell to do some non service work on the M3, good job, very cheap but a bit of a pain to get there. I'm told there are two ex Scotthall 'technicians' who've set up in Pudsey/Stanningley area as BMW specialists. Haven't had time to do anything about finding their details though.

Cheers Jo - it actually goes in to Lister Park on Wed now & I won't get time to take it elsewhere beforehand.

Useful info for the future though - thanks.

Just get the parts from one of the places that sells original parts really cheap (German and Swedish)to supply and get a local garage to fit them. Anyone can do it !

Just had a call from the dealer to say that the discs are "down to BMW's recommended thickness" but that there is no point in replacing them until the pads are next due (which probably won't be until the next service).

So, a saving of £260 when they could easily have replaced them (I'd already told them they could when I dropped it off).

I had similar service from Fawdington's in Newcastle last time I had a BM - largely the reason I decided to stick with dealer servicing when I got this one. Delighted that my new dealer seems to have the same attitude - big thumbs up to Lister Park in Bradford if any of you are on here

awww bu66er it, I've been sitting on the fence trying to decide whether to buy an Audi or BMW Estate.

Just when you think the decision is made....
