I am thinking of giving the dreadful BMW ICE a major upgrade (amps and speakers) but wondered if it effected the warranty, I hear any alterations to the car performed by none BMW dealers can validate the warranty. Does anyone have any experience? I am looking to use prestige audio, as I hear they are good.

They couldn't deny a warranty claim on anything unless they could prove that the modification you made to the car caused it. As such, if you fitted an amp and your engine blew up, then they shouldn't be able to worm out of it. Whether they could make life difficult is another matter.

To ensure an easy life, your best bet is to speak to your dealer and see what their stance is on such matters. If they are OK with it your life will be much easier if something does go wrong; if they don't like it, then find a dealer that will!

Prestige are good, used them for an install on my 330.

You keeping the satnav/tv unit? Or replacing it?

Thanks, will try the dealer.

I want to keep the sat nav and TV and just add the extra amps and speakers. I spoke to prestige and they said they could do the latter and then also replace the head unit if necessary and also keep the sat nav and TV (by putting a new unit in the glove compartment and fitting a remote to the visor). But I dont want too much of a fundamental change, as Im not sure if I will keep the car. However, I used to have a Z3 and by changing the head unit the difference in sound quality was significant hence I know the improvements i will get over the stock BMW stuff.

It never ceases to amaze me how poor the standard BM headunits are, they must be equivalent to a £75 halfords number.

Similar to what I've done, used line level converters to power my own amp + speakers (although am going to order a proper eq/converter since the sound quality is still not great)

Prestige showed me their integrated head unit, it's a good idea but just too much fiddling about for my liking .. plus as you say these things are only temporary and lots of expense just isn't worth it.
