Just bought a 540. Great car, astonishing performance and handling for something so big and heavy. The M5 must be outrageous.

Having difficulties with my radar detector, which seems to be receiving a very low (and late) signal from speed cameras. Is there some kind of filter on the windscreen (presumably to keep the car cool in summer)?

If so, is this a removable film?

Thanks for any advice.

You can check your windscreen spec with a dealer. It sounds as if you have a climate comfort screen fitted. There is a film, but it's sandwiched between the glass so removal could be a bit tricky ! You're probably best to work around it or have a new non CC windscreen fitted.

Thanks Julian. That's helpful to know. I guess I will be looking for a new radar detector to fit in the grille...

The tinted glass will block u/v. that is why your self darkening eyeglass lenses don't tint in the car on a sunny day.

As far as radar detection is concerned, radar is blocked/deflected by glass tinting that contains metallic material to cut light transmission or in the case of factory heated screens for the heating element.
