Having decided that I need a more practical car for the family and managed to almost convince the wife that a E30 M3 is a rational cost-effective choice of motor vehicle I'm now faced with the vexing question of where do I actually get hold of one...

Anyone have any bright ideas? Anyone recommend any dealers? Anyone have experience of buying abroad (don't seem to be many E30 M3's for sale in this country at the mo) Anyone know of an M3 for sale?

Thanks, much appreciated. The only other car of interest would be a M635CSi but those seem to be even rarer than E30 M3s these daya...

Probably worth giving Munich Legends a ring:

they often have good examples, and may have seen a lot of the cars that are currently for sale

Ever thought that an E34 M5(3.6 or 3.8) could equally suit your needs?......4 doors.....cavernous boot.....roughly the same price as a 1/2 decent E30 M5? .....and not LHD for the majority of cases (3.8 tourings excepted)

Usually good examples but massively overpriced.

What about German Cars in Norfolk? I've seen a couple advetised by them in the back of C&SC but they seem to stock more 320iS, tempted myself.

Aghh cant remember the soddin' name of the place now, but little BMW specialists based in a barn near the village of Aldermaston Berks, mainly newer BMs but he did have 3 e30s when I was there- from clean & tidy & all seeming ok at £6k up to mint low mile evos.

I'll try & rememeber the name.

There do seem to be absolutly loads of e30M3s about privatly tho at decnet prices.

Have you driven one Neon? Intrested to know what you think of 'em as you've owned a 968Cs, the one I drove wasnt a patch on a 968Cs IMHO, (other than looking way way better than a 968- again IMHO) but indeed may have just been that example.

Munich Legends stuff just seems so ridiculously over priced.

Thanks Iggy, Hope Fearny is treating your 340i well. I did (of course) check out the black car on Autotrader a few days ago. Turns out that it had gone ages ago and that IMC no longer deal with E30s (this was a part-ex they were selling cheap to clear) and really only deal in E36 M3 Evos and later.

I was put onto a guy called Wayne in Birmingham by Mosely Motorsport (who also no longer deal in E30s as there's no margin apparently) who has the following E30 M3 Evo2 up on ebay.co.uk:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=4507641403&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:BID

I think I'll put in a bid on it as it's only got 30mins left to run.

If you didn't buy the Evo2 , then get on to www.bmwcarclubforum.co.uk/forum_topics.asp?FID=18 and ask about cars for sale.

Munichs didnt have a lot of M3's in stock a month or so ago . Try their website for the stock list www.munichlegends.co.uk. Be warned , their prices are always at the upper end of the scale

Independent have a mixed rep for cars and also don't deal so much in the old E30 M3's

German cars in Kings Lyn www.320is.co.uk have a few along with the 320is they mostly seem to sell . I've heard good things about them .

Try the BMW mags. Total BMW and BMW Car Magazine will have a few for sale in the back .

There's always a few on ebay . Decide for yourself if buying a car of ebay is a good thing or not.

Check www.s14.net as it is the best E30 M3 forum on the net bar none . It's mainly Americans , but a lot of Brits post there and may be able to help.

This ad was in one of the BMW mags a couple of months ago . Maybe worth a call if you are looking at the upper end of the market . Oh yes, that 38K Sport Evo sold ......for 41 K !

Thanks very much guys for all your help. I am now the owner of a Misano Red E30 M3 EvoII (the one off eBay)

The owner tells me he has another M3 which he has put a 400bhp 5-litre Rover V8 into, so I'm guessing he's a bit of an 'enthusiast' :-)

Anyone want to buy a 964 Carrera 2 now it's going spare?

Neon, I nearly bid for that car - it had been listed several times but never sold. What put me off was the obvious rot around the screen and the flat paint. What is the car actually like in the flesh?

I'm looking for one now - are you aware of any that are still for sale?

Good suggestion above is to check out the BMWCC GB website. There are quite a few e30's on there and most of them are well cared for.
