Just noticed it's gone- Question is do I need to book it into the dealer or can I actually do it myself ??

I hope your joking
having never actually looked at a E46 headlight, I presume it's as straightforward to change a buld as every other car in the known universe (TVR's excluded )

wish I was, but there was a post here somewhere saying that someone's Audi needed to go to a dealer for 45 mins, and a friends golf handbook said that you likewise needed to take it in. I know it's mad, but I suppose they're trying to find new ways to overcharge us!

oh ffs!!

Open bonnet,
twist back cover off headlight
Unclip offending bulb from light
Remove offending bulb from light
Remove wires from offending bulb
Put new bulb onto wires
Put new bulb back in light
Re-clip new bulb
Twist on the back cover
Close Bonnet

3 mins tops? 5 if you have big hands.

get some of these:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7938335985&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT

H7 (they come in pairs), £9.99 rather than about £25 in town.
