Just worked out that the Satnav on the BMW is pretty advanced. It doesn't just rely on a GPS location in order to give you directions, but seems to calibrate on inertial sensors on the car.

Way before the satnav is telling the computer what direction your heading in the inertial sensors have already told it.

Cool huh. It knows when you've turned at a junction before the sat part of the satnav has caught up. Took me ages to find out why the instruction voice was predictive.
