What's that noise???

Noticed a pronouced "squeak" coming from the drivers side rear suspension when I got out of the car today. It seems to handle fine, no bangs or clonks etc.

Car (E36 320i Coupe) has done 94k, any ideas, or is it just one of those 'old car noises'?

Handbrake or shock tops.

Apart from the ideas in existing posts, time and wear can cause joints to dry up maybe?

Thanks for the ideas folks - I think it's the handbrake mechanism (squeak stops when handbrake is off). Going to give everything a good clean/oil at the weekend.

Could be failing top rear damper mounts.

it is indeed the handbreak, i have an E36 320i Coupe 166,000 miles and it makes a squeeking sound when i get in and out when hand break is on.

the mechanic suggested some lube around the area but NOT on the break!!
