Just looked at an M5 2001. 70000 miles but in good nick. Good BMW FSH, and allll the extras. Including widescreen TV, NAV, cruise blah blah.

Trouble is its an import from germany. Anyone know whether this should put me off or not £20K

At £20k you should be able to get a RHD?

It is a RHD. I don't think theres an extra it hasn't got. I was just a little worried that parts would be different, resale value would be affected.

Wouldn't worry about the import status to much. Just confirm with your local dealership that they will honour the warranty.

I've seen cars with around 30k miles at about 24k privately of late though and i'd take the 40k less miles than the £4k personally.............

Fantastic car either way though. Had mine a few months now and it's breadth of abailities still continues to amaze.

They're all imports from Germany though....after a fashion.

Why are you worried about resale, doc? Only planning on keeping it a little while?

Weel, the only thing I've maage to find out about imports is that the warranty only lasts two years instead of three.

This warranty was never extended, so I think there would be a problem trying to do it now. Although not sure if its worth it or not.

Not seen a 30K miles car at this age/spec for that money though!

If you buy one, never trust the range approximator when the fuel warning light comes on.

I did, last night, when the useless bastard reckoned there were 42 miles to go.

It transpired there was actually about 20 feet to go, after which it coughed and spluttered to a halt and I somehow managed to push the S.O.B to a nearby forecourt.

Looks like I've knackered something in the process as well 'cause a yellow light's come on and it literally limped home at approximately 90mph slower than normal.

Bunch of crap, buy a Lexus instead.

Fear not Der, I had same light, it's triggered by "out of range" exhaust emmisions, no doubt caused by the crap that was used from the bottom of your tank. This then activated limp mode ;( Simple reset job through the ODB.

Yep 4 days to go, a 2000 rather than 2001, so small screen. regardless I rekon that'll make 24.

Yep, mine doesn't work either. I know that because once you've gone past 0 it shows -- (for another 3 miles while I struggled to find a petrol station). It got me there though

Having said that my 5 series engine is 1/2 the size of yours so I suppose there's less scope for petrol guzzling to confuse the computer!

Strangest thing, when your upset, I can understand your posts.
I not sure I understand this. Certainly in the older BMWs circa 2000, the low fuel warning was the most accurate thing on the car and my experience was to use this rather than the fuel gauge. The low fuel light is measured more accurately through a simple stick system completely seperate on the main gauge, and is actually the only thing which is allowed to calibrate the mpg.
So if you constantly fill the car before the yellow light comes on over a period of time the MPG and range would get more outta wack. If you let the yellow light come on each time before filling you will have a much more accurate callibration to you fuel flow meter.
However that doesn't explain how the yellow light can come on seconds before you run outta juice.
