Flooded

started the 328 a couple of times yesterday for a minute or less, whilst changing the front brake pads (to get the power steering working) then later on, about an hour later, the bugger wouldn't start. Turned over with a high speed whine, no firing. Left it a while, thought it might be flooded, tried again, several times.

Sod that, takes other car out. When I got back, called the AA and a 'VERY NICE MAN' spent over an hour, cleaning the plugs, turning it over with the fuel pump fuse out then trying again, over and over again.

Started & been fine since. Apparently, big engined BMW's are prone. I've had this one for >100k miles, a 2.8 Z for 45k miles and a few others too, but never had this problem before.

Tip to avoid this - let the car run for a couple of minutes as a minimum. This was a total pain, so thought I'd pay it forward

I can concur with this advice. I've had similar fun
& games when getting the car out of the garage to
park it near the East Wing of the house for cleaning.

The little yellow engine light came on and the engine
was running rough. I think a cylinder or two was flooded.

15 minutes hard thrash down the motorway in third gear sorted it out.
