Friend of mine who owns much more exotic machinery has just bought one for the missus and he loves it. Says its the best handling hatchback available without a shadow of a doubt.

a couple of blokes at www.bm3w.co.uk just have. Check out the "New and Future BMW Models" forum (you may have to register, but don't worry, we're a friendly bunch).

i just got mine today -- graphite with the aero kit -- and 5 spoke kit wheels -- i wanted the 7 spokes but someone cocked up.

came out of an a3 2.0 tdi which was a Great Car -- only done 50 miles in this one so far but i'm kinda grinning thus far -- just gotta keep the thing away from the kerb when i'm parking!

i'm dead impressed by its performance thus far - 25bhp over the a3 and none of that diesel sound intruding into the cabin.

oh - and i found this crazy stick thing off the centre column that operates these crazy yellow light things on the side of the car; i'll be sure to tell other BMW drivers about 'em

Any of you owners previously had a 3 series saloon?

Or perhaps a Compact? How do they compare in your opinion?

Looking at 1-series but Compact looks to cover most of the bases the 1 does, no?

I got a 120dSE but am still waiting for an aero kit for it.

I think its a great car.I have owned various BMWs over the years and it compares very well to all except for rear space.I think the drive is better than compact and quicker too IMHO of course.

The funny little Max Power neon lights under the door handles were a surprise though. . . do they all have this?

I had one for a day whilst the m3 was in service. I've also driven most variants of a 3 and my first BMW was a 318ti Compact....

The cabin felt a little cheaply put together but I was in a base 118d. The technology at base level was good however. Was quite peppy for a little car and I thought it handled really nice - typical BMW balance. Much better than the old 3 series, not quite as much fun as the new 3 series but definatley firmly built around the BMW DNA

At first I questioned the logic of BMW producing a small car when the Mini was so much fun but this 1 series has the power to bring rear wheel fun to the masses...just need to convince the wife she needs one

nope those are standard on the SE but extra on S and Sport - just like the neon door sills...

also i believe the aero kits for the SE and Sport are different -- as mine almost got an SE kit on it by mistake..
