Currently looking to get a comfortable cruiser for my 750 mile weekly commute tally. I do two runs of 150 miles and 5 90 mile runs, so after something comfortable, entertaining for family, and economical (power would be nice too

The Uberbarge that is the new 7 is actually quite fuel efficient in 3.0D form and doesn't cost much more than a ridiculously highly specced 535d sport. Only problem is the latter comes without an option for rear view television which the wife insists is a must have feature

So anyone else got any views on what would be more satisfying - a 730d (Less Grunt, Same Effieciency, More Comfort) vs 535d (More Grunt, Same Efficiency, Less Comfort (Slightly) ) ???

If I were to choose between the two I'd get an 12-18month old 730d at about 28-30k, would be specced up and already lost nearly half its value. 535d would be easier to live with size wise and better for back road bashing but only available new so you'll lose nearly 12k if you spec it up in the 1st yr, whilst the 7 will lose about 4k every year. I'd go for the seven

Here's the depreciation from Whatcar- New, 1yr, 2yr, 3yr, 4yr
BMW 7-series Saloon 730d Sport 4dr £50,300 £32,121 £27,996 £24,088 £20,502
BMW 5-series Saloon 535d Sport 4dr £39,200 £31,375 £27,287 £23,759 £20,646
