My old man drives a BMW Alpina B3 3.0 Switchtronic coupe, and every year has a right nightmare trying to insure it as it doesn't come up on the mainstream insurance companies computers, they all start asking numpty questions like is it an import, is it modifyed, don't you mean M3 not B3, etc, anyone got any names/numbers of likely companies that are going to reconise the model?

Not sure if you've tried them already but Priviledge do a special scheme for high performance BMWs. They came up with the best quote for my old M3. Good luck...

I think he's tried them, they use the same car database as Direct Line/Tesco, No B3 only M3.

I know this will sound VERY strange, but try the NFU (I have an M3 insured with them, and it doesn't drive much like a tractor) - anyway for some reason, possibly because it's a mutual society, they seem to have a completely different set of rules to other companies. (£480 fully comp on a 42k M3! - mind you I'm and old git).

Worth a shot anyway.

OK you probably throught of this already but try the companies in the back of EVO or some such mag. If they advertise in a drivers magazine they might have a better idea. If they dont, ask why they advertise there.

While your there try asking for a quote on a TVR S1

Tried a load of the ads in the back of EVO, most of them just say, 'don't you mean M3' like you don't know what car you drive they advertise there because a lot of people that buy performance car magazines don't actually have one, the worst are the ones who say 'well we'll quote you on an M3, but if you take up cover they will be the 1st people to point out it isn't an M3 and refuse to pay up come claim time!

I realise it is old news now - but in case your still interested I have an Alpina B10 3.3 and am insured with Priviledge - no problem at all.

There are a few other companies out there that know Alpinas - but it takes a bit of ringing round.
