I have a 1995 328 Coupe Sport, with a mere 34,000 miles on it.

I swear I can hear a low rumbling from my rear....

I'm undecided whether it might be the diff, a wheel bearing, or simply the 235mm tyres.

Are there any reported issues with diffs or rear wheel bearings? I can't believe that a gently driven low mileage 328 could have either problem.

Cheers

Pat

It could be the tyres, mine rumbles a bit.

Yours doesn't look like a sport model to me tho.

Seems to have standard sideskirts and no rear diffuser thingy but these could be because its pre 1996.

Wrong wheels too - although these are changed easily.

Is the roof headlining in your car black or white? Usually a giveaway

I think you're right.

It is a 328 Coupe with sport seats, big wheels and maybe suspension.

The problem is the O/S rear wheel bearing, which is rumbling.

The car has done 34,500 gentle miles in the hands of my mother, so I'm a bit pissed off that a wheel bearing is knackered, even if it is eight years old.

At least it is not the diff.

Hey ho, I didn't have any plans for next weekend...

suppose you've done the wheel bearing thing before, when I did one I couldn't believe how useful a tin of spinach and arms like Popeye could be...Edited to add, because I didn't have anything remotely like them

What a bastard job that turned out to be.....

I simply couldn't loosen the star drive bolts that attach the inner CV joints to the diff.

Even with a three foot long lever, all I was doing was bending the spanner.

I was levering so hard that the car was rocking on the axle stands, which is never a good thing when you're underneath it, and still the bloody bolts wouldn't shift.

I'm ashamed to say that I gave up, and paid £105 plus VAT to get the bearing replaced at an independent specialist.

I'm a bit pissed off that it failed at 34,000 miles, but that is evidently not uncommon.

Cheers

Pat
