Moving Fan

I have ans old 325i (87) that has been standing for the fast five years. i started the car for the first time on sunday and had to chang4e bothe the fan belts as they had rotted, Once started i noticed a knocking and sound from the water pump I think, and also the fan has a lot of play in it and moves quite a lot when started and sometimes just stalls when it starts to move towards the rad.

Any ideas whats the fault.

The car is in spain so i think the water pump has seized from the heat, but i cant explian the movement in the fan. when the car is not running there is no play in the fan at all.

When the water pump goes I believe it's the bearings that give up, meaning there's lots of play and movement. Think you're right in your diagnosis.
