Thank you BMW for the early warning lights!!! Catastrophe was prevented

After a thermostat failure on thursday (not fun I tell you and a bit as my holiday is now very delayed maybe cancelled) I changed my thermostat and got everything sorted out. Pleased at getting everything sorted and the car appearing to be running ok I went for a little run on some local roads. Bear in mind I'd had it running for 20 to 25 mins with no leaks at all I just got into the local town when my coolant warning light came on after 10 mins running

So, I opened the bonnet to find coolant splattered all around the thermostat casing, and more dribbling onto the fanbelt The thing was that the engine temp was still pretty low. I had no knowledge of the impending catastrophe. Without the warning light I could have kept going until suddenly the car overheated

Luckily enough I had two litres of evian in the car which just got me home (with some pretty speedy driving).

Hopefully tomorrow I'll get the problem sorted.

The moral of the story is, Thank you for the warning lights BMW.
