Had one of these for a couple of months now, and whilst I accept its lovely to drive, looks good, is fast, comfortable, well specced etc - it is rubbish on fuel!

Local driving and i'm only getting 25mpg! To put this in perspective, my previous Jag 4.0 sport XJ did 21 ish and my wife's M3 will manage 24! My old Volvo S60 D5 did more like 38 and wasn't 'that' much slower!!

I just wonder if Diesel cars are concentrating too much on perfomance and not enough on their intended purpose, good fuel economy!

Whats it worth then Scoobyzoom? Want to buy it?

Sounds a bit odd to me.It should be getting more than that.

Thats the kind of comsumption I get, hooning around town in a 16 year old B10 3.5 litre 12v.

thats what i thought!

It is auto though and its very hilly where i live (top of the pennines!)

Dont't think there's actually any faults on it.

Just seems I'm paying for economy that i'm not getting (in cost of car)

Should have bought an Evo 7 after all! (wife wasn't keen!)

I would get it checked out if I were you. That's the same than my 18yo M5 and at least 8mpg worse than I ever saw on my 330d. I would suspect that either the fuel computer is lying or there is something wrong with the fueling.

It did 120 miles on £20 of fuel the other day which sounds about 25mpg to me?

This is only local driving when its as bad as this (unfortunatly 80% of it's use) and will do more like 35 mpg on a run.

Was your 330d manual as I think the auto box really does kill ecomony?

I know it is not the same car but I've got a 320cd, only local driving over the last week, lots of hard driving (I've just got it and I'm trying to figure out the best way to extract the most out of it) and I cannot get the trip computer below 41mpg! No town driving in that though and it is a manual.

A chap here has a 330d touring and he gets about the same.

I'd say there was a problem with yours.

If its an auto, and you're pootling around town, then you can forget economy. The auto box doesn't lock up til almost 2000rpm, so you'll be wasting a load of fuel. Auto's n diesels do go well together in terms of smoothness, but you'd be MUCH better off with a manual if you're looking for economy.

I'm using a 530D, auto at the moment. Gentle m/way cruising saw 42 mpg. Around town, stop start about 28

sounds about right then, as it is VERY hilly round here which would make 2/3 mpg difference?

42 on the m/way sounds very gentle though! I went to my mums yesterday (about 100 miles) at abaout 80/90 mpg and only saw 35 mpg!

Maybe I've just got a heavy right foot.

I really tried just to see how good it was. 55-60mph cruise. Id say 35 is probably closer to the mark. Around town I get 14 mpg in the 7.

My 330D was an auto Touring (184bhp) so it shouldn't be that different. I think my fuel consumption stayed in the range 33-38mpg. I didn't even break 30mpg towing a big dinghy! 25MPG is what BMW quote for urban for your car but that should be worst case.

I used to find that my 330d was a little optimistic about what gear it could use. Try knocking it into sport mode and leaving it there in the hills. You may find that you can use less throttle. Use the MPG guage to see how much you can back off without loosing speed.

We had a E39 530d sport auto. Over the year we had it averaged 32.8mpg incl over the ton blasts, b road bashing and urban queuing. Shud get it checked by dealer for software ems etc.

As said previously that does sound very poor - Check it again yourself and then get it checked by BMW

MY old mans 330d (manual 184bhp) shows 40.3mpg on the all the time - he hasn't reset it for months

Even with my enthusiastic driving it doesn't budge
