Amazing! Finally something to do with my M5 that hasn't cost me a fortune! My car has been running pretty rough since a trip across France this July. After a chat with Peter at PMW Chelmsford he said he was pretty sure it was related to the MAF sensors. I remembered seeing a post on cleaning them rather than replacing them and decided to give it a try.
I am terrified about touching anything to do with the engine as I believe the only thing worse than paying a BMW dearlership to repair your car is to pay a BMW dealership to repair the damage YOU DID to your car!!
The guide I followed can be found here www.louv.tv/cars/m5/MAF/
I dont know who wrote it or who hosts it, but thank you!!
The instructions were easy to follow and have worked a treat! The car no longer hesitates at 4000rpm (this had got really, really bad) and is smoother throughout the revs and pulls considerably harder. I am chuffed to bits and thought I would let anyone interested know that it is worth a crack (and a total cinch to do) if you have any problems with an engine that doesn't want to pull properly.
By the way, the only problem I had was I couldn't find the cleaning product used in the guide. Instead I used electrical contact cleaner spray from Maplin. £1.50 a bottle. I bought the screwdriver at Maplin also for £20. I still can't believe I have sorted this problem for under £25!!!
