I decided to copy all my CD's via the PC and to make my own various albums to put in the car (Z3 M Roadster).

They will not work.

What am I doing wrong...they work on the hifi (Technics) and on the TVR Tuscans' stereo (Pioneer), but not on mine?

Any advice would be welcome.

Some hifi will not 'recognise' burned CDs, unlucky chap

Your stereo doesn't accept CDRs.

BUT...you may find it works with certain brands. I have a stereo at home that says it doesnt accept CDRs but works with a certain brand. Can't remember which brand though!

You might have to buy the 'Audio' CDRs that cost about 5 times as much.

Buy a new head unit!!! You know it makes sense.

You can then get one that reads MP3 format and have loads'a music on each CD....or buy yourself an IPod. It's smaller than a PDA, fits all of your music on it (silly amounts!!), and you can get a little gadget that plugs into the top which means you can use it in your car. It sends out a radio signal which you tune in to. That way you have your full CD collection with you all of the time and don't have nasty big CD changers in your boot or a glove box full of CDs.

Suppose it all depends on the stereo as well. My E39 (5 series - 2002)– standard Radio/Tape up front with 6 disc changer in the boot, plays all my ‘back-ups’ fine. I only use TDK or Sony 80 min ones.. Not had one that hasn’t played yet.

Geeks answer - as I understand it some of the 'cheaper' CD-Rs reflect the laser light poorly and as a result wont play.

I've always used Sony, Philips and Kodak discs for copying and they have always played fine in the car.

Thanks.

When you are copying on to the Sony disks, do you have to copy in a certain format (e.g. x4 etc)? It could be that the disks are fine but it is me just not copying them right.......operator error?
