oil to put into y2000 535i sport

Hi,

being a total mechanical numpty, anyone got any idea what oil i should put into a year 2000 w reg 535i sport? it doesn't need a lot but the car has done 17k since the last service and i still have 2 green lights (admittedly this all down to motorway miles so low stress on engine etc) but it seems to be in need of a top up.

any suggestions?

Until the next oil change I'd try and find out what's in there already (if you know then fine) and go the same way i.e. stick to semi synthetic or fully synthetic or whatever. After the next oil change put a sump full of decent fully synthetic oil in and stick with it.
