Looking for a new track toy... Does anyone out there have any experiences between the GT and an EVO?

Do you mean Porsche GT1 ? If so....it's my understanding there's quite a big difference between the 2.

See my profile for details of a GT1!

Have actually just sold it and bought this AC Schnitzer CS:

I personally would buy a GT over any M3 bar my current machine. I genuinely think it is the only E36 that will ever be slightly collectable, and I sold my immaculate 73k miler for £12.4k last month, so they certainly command a noticeable premium over normal models.

I suspect an Evo would be slightly faster in a straight line, but the GT is just a little but more special, and certainly is more fun to drive.

If you plan doing track days the GT is perfect - I fitted adjustable suspension, anto roll bars and 6 pot brakes to mine and it would take a very serious piece of kit to be any faster than it on road and track.

There is some pics of mine here:

Buy one, you will never want to sell it

Oooops......think I touched a nerve there. Mucho apologies. Can honestly say I've never heard of an M3 GT, an M3 Evo yes but not a GT. Are they actually called GT1 though?

Never heard them called GT1's M3GT as far as I'm aware and only available in Panzer Green
That CS is absolutely lovely though

The M3GT was a homologation jobby I think 396 ever made all were in BRG with carbon interior and an uprated version of the 3.0ltr engine 296bhp as opposed to 286bhp and all the spoilers to match.
Have not driven one so cannot comment.
It is not however called the GT1
I think 50 were officially imported in to this country
and the rest in Europe.

I have to agree lovely motor. I really didn't know these existed, obviously a bit like the M3 CSL of its day. Lovely looking machine though, and the Schnitzer's not a bad looker either.

There is a very informative site that a fellow GT owner setup with some lovely photos.

M3-GT

They made 300LHD and 50 RHD examples, all in BRG with green and black interiors.

They were called GT Individuals - the term GT1 came about when BMW released 50 Imola Red M3 Evos called the Imola Individual, but as they had the same rear spoiler as the GT, they became incorrectly known as the GT2.

The Schnitzer was bought from a guy who bought it off Jeff in High Wycombe last July, and is one of only 3 RHD examples in existence!

I thought the GT was something special, but this is in a league of it's own...

Hi Gaz,
The guy I bought it off has bought an E39 M5 as he just fancied a change - he has spent a serious amount of wedge on the car since he bought it (receipts for over £10K!!) and it now boasts 40BHP more than when Jeff sold it, and stops well due to 6 pot front brakes with HUGE disks!

Bought for £18k, which although a lot for an 8 year old car, it has still only done 53k miles and was almost £70k when new!

As has been said both great cars, there was a half decent article on a GT in BMW Car a couple of months ago, comparing it with the best of each generation of M3, all great cars.

Question:- was it an E36 M3 that was the "donor" car for your CS?

3.2 evo, although there isn't much left that is BMW on it, aside from the engine, gearbox and interior. Body is carbon kevlar, if you get up close, you can see the 'weave' under the paint.
There aren't many cars i'd kill to own, but this is one of them, and I'd love to buy it if the oppotunity arose.

thanks for that. I must say it is a bit of a machine isn't it. Carbon kevlar lovely !!

£10k! on what?

That's what I thought!! He spent £2k on the airbox, £1k on 100 cell racing cats, £600 on a dastek remap, £1700 on the front brakes etc etc etc

It is in for a service at the moment and I can't wait to get it back!!!

Seems only now that people are realising what a good car the E36 M3 is in general and the M3 GT in particular. My brother bought one and it's a beaut. I keep bringing brand new sports cars to him, we test drive the pair of them and conclude that the GT is the better car. He's been looking at Skylines lately but none seem as good for the sort of money you can pick up a GT for.

Here's a shot of it coming through the chicane the other week at Goodwood...
