New M1 on the way ?

Just heard (in Autoexpress), that BMW is working on a new M1

Yep I saw that...whats this about the M1 using a V8 coming out in the M3 next year, or did I missed read the article?

Its widely documented that the new M3 will have a V8 engine, now the M5 is going to 10 cylinders. Didn't know about the new M1 though. Personally I would have thought a V10 would have suited its model profile better than a V8? Surely it should sit near or at the top of the range.
