What a differance, its like driving a different car much smoother no more clunky gear changes and still loads of grunt

Numbnuts (Dave) Had a manual, bought a steptronic, now I have bought his steptronic, and he is re-buying his original manual back....Only he and I could do this and both be happy....

I prefer the steptronic, Dave prefers the manual.....I suppose I have a car for manual shenanigans, so fair do's.....

Ah... lightbulb moment.

I want a 540 manual really... or an M5. Lottery win, that'll do it.

Angels, don't worry, £300 for hella originals....they fit all cars.

Me...Steptronic - hardly any difference in performance, especially in sport mode or tiptronic...A manual would have to be well driven to tell the difference. I have had 2 manual 5 series, both didn't seem to suit the car. The manual is better on fuel though. (again, my personal opinion only). I don't see it as a sports car, so for me the step is the best. I think the touring would suit the steptronic even more so.

Leather - without question, yes. But I would be surprised to see a 540 without one.

£10k - I reckon T reg.....especially the touring, they fetch a bit more.

Not necessarily for a 540...5k can get you a tidy one with full history....

M5 - dropping to about 15k now....worth thinking about....

There's a good owners review of the 540i in the March edition of BMW car magazine.
