Just bought a 530d touring from a BMW main dealer and I'm very happy with it, except..........

It appears to be a grey import. As i bought from a main dealer I suppose I was off my guard a bit and didn't properly check. The only way I know is the service book/owners manual is in German, I have a certificate of conformity and the wipers are the wrong way round! (Oh, and a 'Motorpoint' warranty book).

So, a few question if anyone can help:

Does it matter? I presume BMW used car warranty won't be affected.

Should main dealers sell greys and/or should they have told me?

Will it (seriously) affect it's resale value?

Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

Having recently been scouring maindealer sites I did pick up on the fact that it seemed a manual in English is actually an optional extra! Seems strange...but true...though I stand to be corrected!

smartie - email me the reg number or last 7 digits of the chassis number i will check it out for you.

yes they should have told you, no it doesnt effect the warranty as they put a BMW warranty on it and on a 530d Touring it wint effect the resale value massively but if i said it didnt i'd be lying..

cheers

Spoken to the "used car controller" as the salesman I bought it from is on holiday.

He says he needs to speak to salesman next week and will come back to me then. Admitted I should have been told and was quite apologetic so I'll see what i can get out of him next week. (he did offer me an English manual!)

Next service (not due for 10K or so) is only an oil change so hardly enough? How far will they go?

Thanks for your help Adam, might have to buy the next one off you! (This is our 3rd in 19 months!)

It might affect your insurance - many companies require you to declare if it's an import.

You can bet your bottom dollar that if/when you try to p/x at a BMW dealer they'll knock the price down.

for what its worth, i have a 325 grey import (from holland). I've been looking at part exchanging in for new model only to be told dealer would only offer 2k less than book price because its an import. Its totally UK spec with UK manual etc except i imported it instead of them! Suggest you reject car as BMW always tell me they cannot resell imports cos they cannot verify history.....
