BMW S it Up

New sporty kit for Five series

BMW Great Britain has announced the launch of Sport models for the 5 Series Saloon and Touring range. Visually similar to the recently unveiled M5, Sport models feature a number of interior and exterior enhancements over the existing 5 Series SE variants. They also benefit from of M Sports suspension.

M Sports suspension features recalibrated dampers and stiffer springs as well as lowering the car by 15mm. The new 5 Series Sport models have a similar suspension set up to the forthcoming high-performance M5, sharing links and bushes.

Externally, Sport models feature a new front bumper and valance with a wider air intake for improved aerodynamics. The side profile is tweaked with flared side sills, de-chromed window surrounds and bespoke 18-inch M Light alloy double spoke wheels. A new rear bumper and apron includes Park Distance Control. Customers can also specify the optional M rear boot spoiler at a cost of £135.00. Sport models are available in two solid and five metallic colours, alongside five colours from BMW’s Individual palette to enable customers to personalise their cars even more.

Internally, all Sport models come with cloth / Nappa leather combination (545i standard with Dakota leather throughout) covering the partly electric sports seats (fully electric on 545i). Aluminium cube-styled interior trim adorns the dashboard, centre console and doors while an M Sports multi-function steering wheel, M door sill kick plates and an anthracite headlining complete the sporting look.

Historically, Sport models accounted for over 60 per cent of the previous 5 Series variants, and the new 5 Series Sport models are expected to continue the theme and account for a similar ratio of new 5 Series sales.

"and bespoke 18-inch M Light alloy double spoke wheels"

so those will be the same 'bespoke' alloy wheels that the 3 series sport gets?

Well, I thought they'd at least wait for the new M5 to come out before using it's "look" on the rest of the range, like what happened with the sports kit on the previous 5 series.

At least it was a few years before we saw the almost M kit for them, but now you can get an almost M looking car a good 6 months before the M5 even hits the streets!!!

Way to dilute the looks of the flagship model, which already looks a bit odd, now it's not going to look at all unique!

Duh.

Hmm... the E39 Sport kit looked better than the standard car. Doesn't work for the new 5-series, in my view - the adornment needs to be minimalist for the shape to work as a whole and this is fussy.

The wheels do have a visibly different offset to the 3-series Sport though.

BMW marketing in one easy lesson

i = Company Restricted budget, Driving the Badge!
i SE = Special Equipment (reality proper spec.)
i Sport = Extra Bling
i ES/Lux = Its on Runout folks!

Medium to Big Engines always come first
Then the small engine
Then the hum dinger M Power car just to give the range that little bit of kick after a year or so

Must admit, I’ve seen the light. I was looking at a 6 month old A4 3ltr Quat Sport, to replace my old A4 2.6. Ended up with my Bimmer – and a much better car as well (even thought it’s the E39 shape - i.e just gone out of fashion). I love still it…

It just looks completely shite, just like the rest of Bangle's bodge-ups. I can't believe that there are actually people out there stupid enough to pay for something that looks like this - let alone pay the kind of amounts they do. The funniest thing is, people buy BMWs because they think it impresses people, whereas the reality, nowadays, is that the sight of a Bangle-BMW just makes people fall around laughing. There's an enormous gap between reality and perception here: Saddo with BMW (thinks): I'll just go out for a pose and impress people. Rest of world (thinks): What a tosser. What a revolting car. YUCK...

Your opinion and that's OK.

I'll move onto a 535d sport with all the bits and it WILL be a great car

Oh, what do you drive...just because people like this doesn't make them tossers.

A narrow minded attitude makes someone a tosser - big time.
