Upgrading the lights on an E39

Very happy with my new (to me) 1997 523iSE – looks great from most angles, especially with the M5 alloys.

The only things that really “date” it are the front lights.

£400+ seems a little steep to upgrade them legitimately (but I guess I should get used to costs in the “BMW” world)

Has anybody done this cheaper? Any advice? (Preferably with photos)
