Local specialist has one for sale, and I'm going to view it tommorrow. All the goodies are there, and I know all the usual things to look out for (thanks to you lot!), but it's a 4 door. Is this good, bad or ugly? I don't need a 4 door (family grown up ), so is this a useful feature come re-sale? Is it any less 'nickable' with the extra doors? Comments welcome please.

Tabs,
I think in general the 4 door is felt to be a little less desirable due to it being a bit more 'family man' rather than thrusting 'coupe'
The suspension is less sporty, but other than that it is the same car.
It is generally cheaper, due to it being slightly less desirable.
Personally, I prefer the 4 door. I think I am in the minority though, which is great as I have 2 kids, and with them comes a whole plethora of baggage which negates the coupe.

Yes, Mike, that's as I thought. I already have an E36 touring, wouldn't it be great if they made an M3 touring? You could go to the tip, on holiday, and trackdays to blow the cobwebs away......Most other marques produce medium size perfomance estates. BMW seem to be missing out here.

If you don't need a four door then wait for a coupe, it's a much better car, suspension, seats, wheels etc

Is there really that much difference?

There should be no suspension difference what so ever if we are talking about an M3 whether it is a coupe of a 4 door. A 4 door if anything will handle better as they are generally regarded as having a stiffer chassi. The long doors in the coupe allow for more flex. If it was me for looks i would prefere to have a coupe, but at the end of the da when buying a car like this you want to buy a good car. If it's a good car thats whats important

I definately read somewhere that they have slightly softer suspension (The 4 door that is). Not sure of any other difference.

Well, I've been to look at it, and there are too many dinks on the body. I think I'll wait for a coupe to come along. Mind you, take the M badges off the 4 door and you have a brilliant 'Q car'.

The main differences are:

M3 4 DOOR

No front splitter
Different side skirts
Different wheels
Softer suspension
Different seats
Slightly heavier

Mostly cosmetic other than weight/suspension then.
Not too bad considering the savings to be had.

just what I'm looking for...... only problem is I think I prefer the look of the 2 door but sensibility says I need the 4 door.

I'll be looking at both today so will look out for the differences.
