Absolutely , however my hankering was prior to purchase of the magazine, the magazine has confirmed it!

Thanks X,
A bit too soon unfortunately, give it a year and I will have a serious look, doesn't stop me from dabbling a bit though.

Incidentally, has anyone any stories to tell about an E34 M5?

E34 M5s, are great cars. Tough, reliable (apart from the Nurbergring suspension, which dies every 70k miles at a cost of £500 per corner), fast, understated and they have one of the finest engine notes known to man (or woman).

I could tell you stories about very high speed drives on the triangle in North Wales but, as you are a policeman, I wont.

They are approaching the bottom of the depreciation curve now and they are definitely a future classic (I sold mine for £2k more than I bought it, but spent £2k making it perfect).

Go for a 3.8l as it is torquier than the 3.6 but it is still a hell of a peaky engine, not easy to live with on the daily grind. If you intend to commute it, dont get one.

Consumption varies from 10mpg (on the triangle) to 26mpg on a motorway run, which ain't bad for an old school monster.

Handling is superb, very predictable drift machine, the main let down is the recirculating ball steering which is a bit lifeless and numb around the centre.

All IMHO of course.
