I know it is a bit like "how long is a piece of string" But....

How many miles are the M50 engines good for. I have a 525ise with 167000 miles on it which has been very well serviced, and extremely quiet when running / starting from cold.

I think my engine is an M50 Model, it is a 24v 2.5ltr.

Any really high milers out there?

I know of a 520 M50 with 240k on it. Still runs like its half its mileage.

I had 157k on mine when I sold it. She was serviced on the dot, and just never gave a complaint. Ever. Only Issue I had was putting petrol in it.

Not mega high mileage, but I sold a 325SE with 120k on it, and it was absolutely perfect. Silky smooth, never even the slightest hiccup, never used any oil between services. I don't think I've ever come across a sounder engine.

The BMW specialist I used to use in Cheshire had an E34 525 touring with about 220,000 miles. It drove (as they say in autotrader) like new.

I was talking to a BMW engineer who told me that 100k on a BMW is like 30k on most other cars. Mine's done 88k so I suppose it's barely run in!

Hi Mark,
Could you tell me who this specialist is? My oil burner is still having cold start problems despite swapping in new glow plugs. I've got a local diesel guy looking at it today so fingers crossed but it's always good to know about other specialists. Damned if I'm paying dealer prices anymore

Cheers,
Rob

Rob, let me know how you get on.

They saved me a tidy bundle yesterday on an MOT emissions problem.
