I've advertised my six series for a couple of months now, in the calssified, but don't seem to have had much interest. I wonder if the market for these is dropping off now. I thought the value would still be stronge for a car thats been looked after, allthough its done 160k so I thought I'd price it a thousand or so less than a car thats low mileage.

Is there anyone out there thats found a problem moving their's on and could advise me of what would be a reasonable price for a 635csi Highline which has been well looked after. The only thing that does not work on the car is the air con as the gas has run out and I can't seem to get any of the old stuff that went into these cars. It otherwise is a good reliable runner and I don't want to take it to the scrap yard if I can't sell it!!

Can't help with why it isn't attracting interest as if I didn't have an M5 I would be interested in a 635 or M6 (or 850csi if I could find a decent one), but I might be able to help with your aircon problem - if the 'stuff' you were looking for is R12 fluid.

I believe the newer R134 fluid is compatible with the older aircon system, but you must ensure the old fluid it completely flushed from the system.

There are a few places to get the older stuff (as it's more effective and gets to a lower cooling temperature), but BMW won't do it due to the 'environmental' issues.

Probably difficult to sell due to a small audience of prospective purchasers. Any BMW over a certain age is seen as a prospective money pit (whether its true or not). If there is a 6 series website, advertise there?, or in the BMW owners magazine?

There is a house near me that has had an M635 parked in the drive for the last four years. Its never moved and the once red paint is now pink. I suspect because of the money needed to make it roadworthy. I've often been tempted to ask the owner if he would sell it...but you guessed it, I'm scared of the bills...

Thanks for the help chaps, I suppose I'll have to either keep it, or keep reducing it til it goes in the end !
I've put on the add, any reasonable offer. Perhaps that might get someones interest !!

I've still got the original one in the boot but not the rest. It appears that the original wheels were the metric ones, as some were fitted with them. the tyres were a rediculous amount of money each so some people just bought a set of alloys with tyres which was cheaper than a set of metrics.
I'd have bought a set of Alpina's (even copies)myself but these wheels do look good when your rolling along.

It has just passed the MOT today !!!

So thats out the way, every thing was ok.

You could always bring the car down to a meet i am organising at The Devils Punch Bowl in Hindhead on Sunday. There will be a number of six series owners there and with 20+ BMW nuts in one place someone might want to make you an offer. We meet up at 11:30 and will be leaving at 13:00 to go for a short drive to the Squirrel pub in Hurtmore for lunch at 13:30.

Can I re-inforce a point that has been mentioned above?
I just took a look at your car in the pics on the classifieds. I reckon your car is easily worth what you are asking for it...Let's look at it objectively:

It's a very late 'Highline' ie pretty close to BMW's Top-of-the Range at the time. It's in a great colour and has a full BMW service history! But what strikes me first in those pics are the wheels (and possibly also the darkened windows).

What you are trying to sell is now a 'period piece'...those wheels are not in keeping with the 'period'. You can source a set appropriate of 415 TRX cross-spoke wheels fairly easily and very cheapily on, for example, Ebay...mainly because no one wants them...as you say the proper Michelin tyres are so expensive. Nevertheless, with these correct wheels the impression of your car will be transformed! You can buy cheaper metric tyres than the proper Michelins and actually in reality there's not much to choose between them and Michelins anyway. You may even get wheels with decent tyres on them!
Sell the car with both sets of wheels if you like but photograph it with the proper metric wheels on.

An alternative would be period Alpinas...but these will cost too much and replicas like the BK171's just don't cut-it with the type of person likely to be interested in your car in my humble opinion.

The other thing I'd explore is seeing how much it would cost to change those darkened windows back to original.Maybe buy windows from a breaker?

If you can do this I think you should start getting people round to view...Best of luck!
