Had a quick look at an M3 the other day.

Interested to note that the speedo goes to 300 kmh ( == 186 mph).

I thought all BMW governed down to 155 mph ?

All academic for UK use anyway.

They are governed., but most of us have got the speedo up to 170, so the limiters are all a little lax, even allowing for speedo error.

But your commment does come across as a little bit of a dig at the M3 for an offence committed by just about every car on the road. Have you not noticed that even things like Ford Focus 1.6s have 140 mph speedos?

A mini 1000 my mother owned had a speedo marked up to 90 mph, in an effort to improve economy BL had fitted it with a very high top gear

Down hill you could clock it right past 90mph round to full on the fuel guage.

Lord knows what the terminal velocity was, it would have been handy to know what speed youwere doing especially as the poor thing had drum brakes allround

I drive a BMW 530i SE Auto.
It's hopelessly overpowed for UK roads.

I think you need to get out more

if a 3l Autobox is 'hopelessly' overpowered, I must have been in a driving dream for the last 4 yrs :P

Even in London, I can see healthy speeds ....

Find a Road.
Drive the Road.
Enjoy the Road.

Repeat until that comment fades from memory..

realise you need a much faster car

and repeat

Fair point, but I am spending some 3-4 hours a day in the car.

It does get quite a bit of use.

Have you seen the numbers - 152 mph and seven seconds something 0-100kmh ?

Something capable of more than twice the UK legal limit is overpowered for UK use. 90 mph is only 3000 rpm.

My dad thinks his 1.4 Seat Ibiza has "bags of power". It's all relative.

need ? Most certainly not.
want - yes, but no point buying one for UK use only. I'll spend my money on something else.

Its always about need.

Like turns into need later on..

The more you like it, the more you NEED it

Still, we are all into our Cars, thats why we are here

GL with your search for a new motor, are you serious about an M3, or would just 'like' one

Nah. I can recognise a vanity purchase when I see one.

Was chatting with my sister over the weekend about getting a bottom of the range Boxster.

Her commment was "Nice car, but you won't get anywhere any faster and it will cost a lot more than the BMW".

But The Roof goes down, residuals are solid, and its not that much more.

but, the main reason I chose the ///M roadster over a Boxster (aside from wanting to TRY an M3) was that it was cheaper than the boxster, and faster.

Personally, I wouldnt buy a poverty spec boxster tho, as its just doing the car a disservice.

buy a 2.7 or a 3.2s, and just save a little more / get an older one.

All fine cars at the end of the day tho..

Your sisters comments are from the Brain, not from the Heart..

All depends on which you want to follow.
