Replaced the Eibach lowering springs a while back with standard height Eibach springs.

I liked the look with the lowered springs but it made the ride a little bouncy.

Bought a Golf TDI as a bit of a runabout - thats it in the background - so have been doing bits and pieces to it to get it up to standard.

I didn't know there was a correct place for the locking wheel nut?

When did they start doing that and is it easy to spot?
There is not even a locking wheel nut, it’s a locking wheel bolt.
Nice to see I've brought out the pedants.

Anyway yes, the locking wheel nut should be positioned as pictured. (Yes it needs cleaning already)
This is a site for people interested in cars. It’s not much to ask to expect them to know what they are talking about. The position of the wheel bolt is for (dubious) aesthetic reasons only. There will be no fit or balance issues in whichever place it is fitted.
I didn't say otherwise, did I? NowI remember why I didn't bother posting in this thread much with the likes of you. We get words wrong, we're all enthusiasts, we should unite in the passion we share. Anyway if you're that bothered, I had two Hondas before, so in fairness, if you're that pedantic and know that much about cars, you will know exactly what I'm getting at. Wheel nuts which go on to wheel studs.

I really really hate locking wheel nuts / bolts.

Awful things.

I generally replace them with a normal nut / bolt.

I'm tempted to do that myself. I found an old Ford locking nut key the other day and spiralled into a panic as to what I've left it out of.

Do people really nick alloy wheels nowadays? If it was 1978 and you'd replaced the OE steel rims with some Wolfies or Cosmics maybe, but 2024 and OE alloys? laugh

Nice car btw. wink

Thats my view too. Which of course will remain my view until i come back to my car some day and its up on four breeze blocks. eek

Indeed yes RE: wheels and generally not being worth stealing. I bought a set of GT 17 inch OEM alloys for that Golf in mint condition and with good tyres for £230. Would hardly be worth someones while being bothered to steal them.

Thank you RE: car bowtie

Snotters are a great call but blowing £££ on upgrading them is a bad vibe. My previous low cost cheap hack:

After 4 years with the M6, it's finally gone. I've really enjoyed owning the V10 and it had no right being so much fun at Cadwell Park as it was, but I've reached my tolerance for it always being broken in some way.

The engine was reliable, only a couple of coil packs needed, but it needed so many other bits doing constantly that I needed a change.

So I have jumped ship to Jaguar and picked up an XKR. Lovely thing and a totally different way to enjoy 500hp.

Those V10s do seem to get a bad name for reliabilty which is a shame.

A guy down the road from me bought an M5 of that era. Looked and sounded amazing. I think he stuck the big bills for about 6 months before he sold it on.

XKR would be amazing. Have you any pics / started a readers car thread on it?

I often think similar too. Although you just know that as soon as you drop the locking wheel nuts...your car will be on bricks as you say though! hehe

In saying that, I even remember being chuffed when you put a new set of wheel trims on your car. Gosh I'm getting old!!

I'm warming to those. Though i think the A3 saloon and A class saloon look better reconciled.

Looks good in black and all shiny!

yes

Thanks both, yeah I should have done a 'Readers Rides' thing for the M6 as there was always something going on (and not all bad news haha).

I really enjoyed it and the V10 is sublime. The noise it made (completely standard) was very addictive, but at the risk of sounding like Lee.... It lacked low end punch. It was always quick, but you could only access the ballistic stuff rarely. I still did of course, but I live in rural Lincolnshire where I can enjoy 8k rpm frequently.

I was lucky in that I had a BMW warranty that paid out A LOT, so I wasn't carrying the burden. I had a news Diff, new control arms all round, new Heads up Display, new exhaust manifold in the last 12 months alone. Much wear and tear, but also common for an underused car sadly. Had it done 10k per year with me, instead of 2.5k, it might have been a different story.

Maybe I'll do a retrospective readers ride, or maybe the next owner would prefer I didn't haha.

Yeah a retrospective for some pics and history would be good, but what about one for the XKR? Would love to see pics.
