Picked my Z4M Coupe up from Ross at RBM Hampshire after an Inspection 1 service, new front discs, calipers and pads and a new A/C drive belt.

One of the discs had overheated because of a sticking caliper. frown
Hmmm. An expensive day, i'd imagine. frown
All part of the joys or running an old BMW unfortunately.
Indeed yes. And that being a Z4M it needs to be looked after right.

But... on the plus side, a Z4M isnt going to be depreciating whereas a younger car will be.

It needs new pads and discs on the rear too, but I'll let my credit card recover before I get them done!

But I knew what I was getting into when I bought the M to replace my 3 litre. laugh

I read this and thought to my self that they can’t be that expensive. So I found the part number and googled it and cried a little…

When I had to do my ZM front discs (therefore pads too) Cotswold were the best price. I’m sure you’ll do your diligence, but worth a mention!

I’ll restrict myself to lift and coast from now on biglaugh

Luckily Ross gets a good deal on the discs, possibly due to has former Sytner background, but they are the same part as E46 M3 CSL ones so you know it will hurt!

Car is at the specialist today for its MOT and service. First time in my ownership which is always a bit daunting. I basically told them to sort all the advisories from last year, and service it up.

Their health check flagged poor quality brake fluid (now replaced) and a slight oil weep.

So now it’s got another 12 months MOT and a clean bill of health, without breaking the bank. Happy with that!

Got some Pagid RSL29 pads. Proper gear.

Ran them for a while in my E30 M3 race car and they were great. Worked well from cold and were consistent. Not cheap but worth the money.
Yeah and durable as well. They get a good work out.

You’re getting through some trac days for sure. Are these pretty easy on consumables?

Gets through tyres and brakes fairly quickly but reasonable for a 1500 kg car. Can blow a rotated set of tyres and front pads in 4 full dry track days.

Going to replace the motor mounts on a E93 later this week or sometime next week. Still gathering the parts/info on DIY.

Ordered a new battery. Not particularly cheap but the car is feeling a little lethargic to start in the morning and the Stop/Start only works for a minute or two before restarting the engine. Tayna had them nearly half price for a Bosch compared to cp4l and even Amazon. Arriving on Monday.

Back in a BMW. Removed the awful dealer sticker, driven it, fitted my plates, fitted "my trademark" M Tricolour grille trims which everyone hates, debadged it, correctly fitted the centre caps, refitted the locking nut in the correct place on both front wheels and cleaned it so far.

I didn't know there was a correct place for the locking wheel nut?

When did they start doing that and is it easy to spot?

There is not even a locking wheel nut, it’s a locking wheel bolt.

Nice to see I've brought out the pedants.

Anyway yes, the locking wheel nut should be positioned as pictured. (Yes it needs cleaning already)

This is a site for people interested in cars. It’s not much to ask to expect them to know what they are talking about. The position of the wheel bolt is for (dubious) aesthetic reasons only. There will be no fit or balance issues in whichever place it is fitted.
