Booked the 630i for oil change at local mechanic (supplying the oil and filter myself). Too cold to be faffing about under the car at the mo.
Under? Vacuum extractor down the dip stick at the cabin end of the block and the filter is accessible from the top too. When I used to do my 645 I'd spend more time with a mug in my hand waiting for the extractor to finish than a spanner.
^^^

This... Long gone are the days of crawling around under cars

The extractors get out the sump near enough as much as draining from the sump plug in my experience
But...

No dipstick on the N52. Has to be done from underneath.
Wot 'e said.

(Unless there's a hidden dipstick I'm not aware of...*awaits puns*)

EML on the 330i Touring yesterday

This code:

Code erased. Filled with Tesco 99 and given it an Italian tune up. We'll see how it goes. Had this code in the past, I've associated it with 95 octane fuel and wife doing only short town journeys. Will update if recurs.

Got the call I’d been dreading this week; the warranty won’t cover the cam ledges because I swapped the VANOS solenoids over to see if the error code moved. They weren’t even too fussed about the mods on the car.

I’m going to collect the car tomorrow and the decide what I’m going to do.
Bloody hell mate, that's crap. cry

Cheeky gits declining the claim because you swapped over the Vanos solenoids furious

Very nice sir. Out if interest when giving it a clean do you do the exhaust as well? And if so what do you use?

Asking as mine has 167k miles worth of grime on it and could do with a spruce up.
Thanks, I’m sad enough to clean the tips!

I replaced them when I bought the car because the old ones were too far gone. Since then I keep on top of them.
I used to use Autosol on the exhaust.

That’s how a car should be used - just keep the lights and number plate clear!

It's the Kyosho BMW dealer edition (the one with the holdall in the boot.

It's a great model. cool I have the black version (as you say with the little bag).

Also got the Ottomobile (resin) grey CSL in 1/18 and also 1/12.

Used it to collect a second hand bike for my wife and tested the rack with both bikes in situ.

Pleased with the bike rack?

I’m thinking of getting a row bar mounted one for the 330 since it has a tow bar. Looks like a much cheaper solution that used roof bars.
Very easy to use. Can't complain for £75.

Looks good and a lot less faff than a roof mount. Shame it's somewhat illegal without a plate/light set, which somewhat adds back the faff factor.
'Somewhat'. angel

(But seriously I've bought a second numberplate to attach to the bike...so some vague efforts made).

Some of the Thule ones I’ve been looking at have a plate holder and lights built in.
Yes, but they are £££. There's a proper lightbar/numberplate holder for this Xpress set up which I may consider as funds allow.

Ballsed if I’m paying full price; there sees, to be a decent selection of used ones on eBay for sensible money.

Picked up my wife’s new mummy wagon; a manual E91 330i in Le Mans Blue with Dakota lemon leather.

It’s a bit of a 12 footer at the moment but I’m confident that it’ll look loss better with a good polish and wax.
Congrats. Best colour combo obvs. wink

We have the same rubber mats as well. biggrin (Get yourself the factory rubber boot liner if you can)

Used ours for the first proper test of the Thule bike rack. Devised a cunning system with a numberplate holder and ratchet straps to display the numberplate. When looking from behind, brake lights and indicators still pretty visible tbh so I'm happy with this set up.

Also went to the garden centre. #middleagedlife

Just getting the A/C regassed. Really hoping it works and I get away with just having that done. eek
Fingers crossed it's a simple fix.

I remember when we bought ours, the A/C wasn't especially cold. Regas sorted it for 48hrs. Turned out there was an A/C pipe leak round the back somewhere that cost a decent amount to fix. Wife was particularly annoyed at the time as she was 7 months pregnant and it was an especially hot summer. Once it was sorted, she was delighted and spent her lunch breaks just driving around to keep cool (as her office otherwise was a sauna despite 3x fans pointed at her).

Same issue as mine with the 'handle' on the boot floor coming off (I've not replaced).

Normally people turn them off to save washer fluid. Come MOT time, Sam will be okay as his car has halogens.

I leave them on because I have a strange liking for them, and I’ve found them useful in awful winter conditions. smile
I like a headlight washer. Since I sprayed the 'telescopic' bits with silicon spray lube, they not longer get stuck and actually retract properly.

Eventually got one side finished with the bodged bolt and surprisingly the new pinch bolts were only £3 so I've got them and will attempt the other side.
Only need one bad bolt to fk the whole day. frown
