I have the third generation RX-7 (1995).

Do you think the RX-8 will be able to carry the rotary fire?

I'm a big RX-7 fan, I've always liked the shape of them and have always been facinated with their rotary engines. How are they like to run and drive?

As for the RX-8 I'm not sure it is a direct succesor to the 7. I'm hoping Mazda will produce a more focused sports car with the new generation wankel engine.

Same here - I love Rx7s and other rotaries. I vow that the first $20,000 dollar car i buy will be an FD

The Rx8 is a great idea. The looks are a wee bit dodgy, but is otherwise perfect. It will hopefuly set the stage for an entire range of RE Mazdas. Please dont let them get into Fords tho!

I own a 1997 RX-7 and its one of the best looking cars to come out of Japan.

They are on the thirsty side but saying that no more than any other serious performance car that delivers a sub 5 seconds to 60 figure and exceeds 150 mph.

If you get it serviced regularly they last a longtime. Very smooth power delivery and the engines is very quiet. Its puts a grin on my face everytime I get in it. Attracts a lot of attention if that's your thing..people trying to guess what new 'exotic' this is.

The RX-8 is going to be a success and will put the rotary back on the map so to speak. Its aimed at drivers of the Audi TT and the likes and is a completely different animal to the RX-7 which was designed as a pure sports car.

Yes, absolutely gorgeous car. Too bad the design of the RX-8 is not in the same vein.
I hope it will sell well just to prove rotary engines have not said their last word.

Love the third generation RX-7. Great looks. Great performance and it is unique.

The RX-8 does not appear as spiffy in the magazines, but maybe we will be surprised when we see it in the flesh!

My 8 year old RX-7 still gets people staring at it.

I wish I could drive it more on the track, but the car has been absolutely wonderful to own. I have been waiting for a car of the RX-7's caliber and was hoping the Tuscan would be the car to replace it--alas, I live in the USA so I'm stuck waiting for TVR to make up their mind.
To me, the RX-7 is the poor mans Carrera!

Third generation RX-7 is an awesome car!

Poor marketing is what did it in the USA--the dealers around here had them roped off!

I took part in a market research review for the RX-8 this weekend, and I liked the car. (please see comments on General Chat)

As true sports car, an emphatic no. I have a 1999 RX-7 and the RX-8 bears no relation to the fundamental principles of the third gen 7. See my comments on General Chat.

My RX-8 arrives in August (although I may delay to 1st Sept for a 53 plate). I'll run it for a bit and then think about tweaking. Where's a good place to look for a bit more oomph from a rotary?

Owned a Mk3 RX7 for 7 years. Tuned it to around 320bhp,drove it pretty hard and nothing ever went wrong. It remains the best looking car(IMO) ever to come out of Japan.Anybody who says that Japanese cars lack character hasn't driven this baby.
RX8 is not meant as a replacement for the RX7,however,Mazda have said that the RX7 will be replaced by a car in the same vein(hard & turboed). Here's hoping...

There's been talk that the manifold position makes an RX8 turbo unlikely. And what the car really lacks is torque not power so a supercharger would be better.

Me. Saw one for the first time in Glasgow the other day.

How much does a good late model RX-7 go for these days?

i'm no expert, but I've seen the jap cars go from £5K upwards. I think about £8K gets a nice one. I think the UK ones start at more like £10K

I know of someone having to move to Holland with his job, bought one less than six months ago for over 8K and now I think he's looking for around 6K for a quick sale

Anyone seriously interested let me know and I'll get a few more details

Do we wait for the next generation RX-7? Is the third generation RX-7 destined for classic status?

Who is disappointed in the looks of the RX-8?
