It's been done before, but I'm ever on the lookout...

must be coupe, rwd, VERY good handling, modern-ish, reliable, not cost stupid money..

answers on a postcard...

(follows on from my RX7 thread.. as that's the only car that I can think of that's suitable!.. there MUST be others.. surely?)

the pic is of the new mx5 coupe btw

There's also a slightly older Nissan 300ZX, saw one the other day, first in a long while, stills looks the business.

Or, the more common (some say, popular) 200SX, or how about a non-GTR Skyline, 2.5 turbo RWD etc. Or what about a Toyota Supra?

other than whats already been said;

MR2 (prefferably turbo )
BMW 3 series coupe
Porsche 944S2 or TurboSE
Lotus Elise (not really a coupe though).

That sort of exhausts the list without looking at convertibles as well as coupes. (TVR's, S2000 etc).

Newest 200SX S14a definitly worth a try. The last ones are very nice motors (I expect the early ones are too but I dont know em!).

Piers have you actually driven a rx-7 yet ?

If not, go get it done and that'll make your mind up for you

I was in exactly the same position, considering all sorts of cars and thought I had it narrowed down to two (s15 and R32 GTR) until I test drove a rx-7 and woweeeee

tehe..
I'm sure it probably would..

interestingly, I am also seriously considering an S15.. did you drive one? opinions?

as to all the others.. good tries, but nothing origional

skylines are too box-ish, supras very good, but a bit too big, and too "all grip no handling" from what I've heard..

no beemers.

300zx a good suggestion, just not my cup of castrol-R.

200sx also v.good, but doesn't have the x-factor for me.. just a bit plain despite it's veritable talents.

944's a goodun too.. although I'd go for a 968CS if I could find one.. insurance for a 23-year-old on any porsche is just silly though! any parts prices scare me a little.. or am I wrong?

keep 'em coming if you can think or any others!

Shush!!!

'tis tempting that.. but the cost of those two would be enough (on top of the sale price of my car) to buy a very solid RX7.. which is just a bit more special!!

plus I just prefer coupe's for some reason... hence why I'd very much like the car in the pic at the top!!

I wasnt worried about 944S2's when I looked into them.
You probably cant get a better drivers car to fit your requirements than a 968CS.
(In the opinions that I have read, no actual experience).

I know it doesent fit your criterea but I have found insuring a TVR is suprisingly cheap. Or perhaps Im just lucky!
Try Bell Direct for quotes. They always win for me on all sorts (including my Golf, Griff and 300zx/tuned MR2turbo quotes).

Wow Dusty, you spring up in all manner of places! Insurance + TVR + Young Driver = High Premium. I know. Just been quoted £1200 for 22 yrs old 5 years NCB on my S3.

Piers, was driving over to Carlisle the other day and floolwed by a black RX7, slight body kit, black wheels. Sooooo cool. Went past me like I was standing still when I was doing 85 odd.

I did consider it, but the only thing that put me off was the engine rebuilds. Petrol as well as I go up and down the country.

Maybe a Ginetta G27 or so. The insurance are very low for them. About half my TVR.

I'd like to thank everyone else in this competition, I'm sorry for your loss...

How much are you spending?

I think I've spotted the problem

because you can't!

bloody government has seen to that..

post '96 cars require a model report in order to be SVA'able.. there isn't one for the MX5 coupe because it's so rare.. and would cost upwards of £8000 to get one done.. and may involve crash testing!! ouch

968CS would be great.. will do more research.. aren't thier prices actually going UP now though beacuse they're so sought after? Also they all seem to have done mega-miles.. which puts me off as another wheel-bearing/suspension-bush/oil-pump/steering-rack that needs replacing is always just round the corner with 100k+ cars...

G27 is not a coupe.. although there were rumours that they were making a coupe one.. which would be great.. but haven't heard anything for ages... anyone else know??
