What's the mileage and spec? Price sounds about right. There are pros and cons to all models. Having owned a 2000 classic and 2001 new shape, I can vouch for the fact that my MY01 is every bit as fast as my old car in a straight line and considerably better through corners, mainly thanks to the stiffer body.

The newer cars are heavier, but better built with more sound proofing, so it depends on what you want. The power delivery on the new cars is slightly different to the old cars - less urgent in many respects, so they can be a bit deceptive.

The best thing to do is go and take a few for a test drive from your local dealer. Also bear in mind that Scoobs get better with more miles - engines are very tight when new. Also check your insurance quotes - reckon on around £1000 depending on age / area etc.
